I know about flashing your high beams to give drivers the "go ahead" signal. I would like to know if after a trucker passes a car if two brake light flashes means "thank you." Does anyone know of a sign on the freeway you can indicate to the other side there is a big wreck coming up for them?

  1. Right before you pass the accident you sometimes put your flashers on for about 10 seconds then turn them off.

  2. Don't use your high beams, please.  I really hate that.  Kindly

blink your headlights off and on to signal us.  Also, we hate it

when cars cut in front of us too close after passing.  As far as

I know brake light flashes mean "no brights" four-way flasher

(the outer lights) mean "thank you" as do  blinking clearance

lights.  Continuous flashing of the headlights and/or 4-way

flashers would alert us to a big wreck ahead.  2 or 3 head

light blinks to us or from us to communicate a cop looking

for a speeder.  I almost always extend these courtesies to

all drivers but if I could choose, I would have everyone obey

ALL traffic laws (my pet peeve).  Driving is so much safer

when everyone is following the same rules.

  3. The flashing brake lights do mean thank you. As far as i know (i only drove a few months) there is no signal for an accident coming up.... except of course brake lights lol....  The biggest thing i can say is give us our space. there is a lot of areas on most trucks that the driver can't see.

If you would like to know whats coming up ahead i would suggest buying a CB radio. With CB's you can find out cop locations accidents road closures and how to get around all of the above. Try to learn the lingo if you do that though. Its kinda confusing at first. (also if you have children keep the volume low. Truckers don't edit themselves)

  4. Yes it does.......

  5. As a frequent driver on the highways, whenever I see a crash scene coming up ahead of me, I immediately put on my emergency flashers, and tap the brake lights to indicate as much as possible that something is happening and check my rear view mirro often....once traffic slows down behind me I turn off my flashers...... as for oncoming traffic, I put on my flashers - on two lane highways, (I did this for a cattle drive which was partly on the roadway around a bend one time), but I wouldn't do this on a divided 4 lane highway.

  6. DO NOT FLASH YOUR HIGH BEAMS AT A PASSING TRUCK!!! Night time reflections in a mirror are murder. If you have passed a wreck, or other traffic problem, in the last five miles, you can signal oncoming traffic with your low beam headlights (same as the warning for a speed-cop)
