True South Classic: Jason Gore on a right path for making the first PGA Tour cut in 2012
With a hot putter in hand on day one, Jason Gore carded a bogey-free six-under par 66 at the host Annandale Golf Club to seize a share of the third position at the True South Classic.
Gore, whose only PGA Tour victory came in the 84 Lumber Classic in 2005, began his first round with two birdies on the front nine of the course. He kept the momentum going into the back nine and managed to add another four birdies to his scorecard.
As a result, he settled only two strokes behind the pace set by Jason Bohn, who also enjoyed a bogey-free round of eight-under par 64. Luke Guthrie was placed second with a seven-under par score.
According to the game analyst, Gore looked completely different compared to his previous performances on the Tour this year. So far, he has played a total of seven events and never succeeded in making the cut.
Therefore, it was a great display of game shown by him compared to his past performances.
“My scores have been a lot worse than how I'm playing. I feel like I'm playing really well,” said Gore, who has not played full time on the PGA Tour since 2009. “I just haven't really gotten anything out of it. I don't know if I'm just putting too much pressure
on myself”.
His Web.com Tour record for the 2012 golf season is comparatively better, as he managed to record four top-25 finishes in nine events that he has played so far.
“I played okay on the web.com, made some moves out there. But out here, it just hasn't been good. I just think I'm trying too hard. Just go out and play golf,” he said. “All in all, I feel like I've been playing good and there's something good coming around
the corner”.
He now plans to maintain consistency in his game and record another good round on Friday and make the first cut of his 2012 PGA Tour campaign.
In the meantime, there were a number of players who were forced to return to their tents prior to completing their rounds because of the inclement weather. The first round will now resume early Friday morning.
