  2. that's the reason why they call it the scientific method, but in truth, it doesn't rely on that. Imagine ancient Romans or Greeks conducting experiments in a lab for their aqueducts...

  3. It seems like that would be a true statement but, somehow it just doesn't ring true with me.

    All discoveries and advances are not always based upon the scientific method.  Some discoveries and advances just happen by chance, serendipitously.  There are times when something completely new and unexpected just "falls" out of experiments on an entirely different project.
