  1. Huh?

  2. Departure? What type of departure? Instrument? Visual? If I fly a c152 do I have to follow it? If it's synonymous to a SID, then what if i don't have an instrument rating? I need to know!

  3. US SIDs are now called DPs.

  4. Departure Procedures (DP's) can be textual, or a graphic and will also require spefice aircraft performance to guarantee obstacle clearance, and used to provide a transition between the airport an dthe enroute structure, and can also be used to simplify clearance and reduce frequency congestion.

SIDs are a Graphic DP that is used primary to reduce radio communictions and simplfy clearances, and when used outside of the US, do not have obstacle labels , but still provide obstacle clearance..

Basically the same thing, but slight differences..

  5. I work for an FMS application and it is still referred to as SID, in fact we never use the term DP.

Maybe its still called SID because that is the term used outside the US.

  6. yuppyupp

  7. They are already called DP's  also still referred to as SID's

Standard Instrument Departure (SID) routes, also known as Departure Procedures (DP) are published procedures followed by aircraft on an IFR flight plan immediately after take-off from an airport.
