  1. Not 30,000 layoffs. 2,000.

Delta Air Lines said it will cut about 2,000 jobs and trim its domestic flight schedule to cope with soaring fuel prices, becoming the latest U.S. airline to restructure as oil prices top $100 a barrel.

The job cuts are expected to come from attrition, retirement and voluntary buyouts, which are being offered to about 30,000 managers, flight attendants, ticket agents, mechanics, and other so-called frontline and administrative employees or members of management. Pilots aren't included.

  2. It was offered to 30,000 but only 2,000 will be let go.

  3. I had read 2000 this morning.

  4. Nope, not true at all.

Delta is talking about reducing flying by 10% and concentrating on more highly profitable routes.

They are talking about employee cuts of 2,000 people.  Many of whom will be retirees who are simply not replaced.  Not that many people will actually "lose" their jobs.
