  1. Absolutely Not.

All commercial aircraft are certified to be able to fly from their "Equal Time Point" with an engine out. Even two engine aircraft.

The longest Cat 1 route in the world with no runways available is between Hawaii and mainland California.

If an aircraft lost an engine, before their equal time point they would turn around. Most likely would have to descend to lower altitude, due to lower performance.

They would still be able to make a safe return, or continue to destination or closest airfield if past their equal time point.

If aircraft were not able to do this, they would not be certified to carry passenger on over water routes.

  2. Uh huh.
