  1. im a yankee fan and yeah were overrated. girardi has too much faith in terrible young pitchers like ian kennedy and darrell rasner who go out and throw batting practice every 5 days. they also keep signing washed up old free agents like RICHIE SEXSON and SIDNEY PONSON. theres a reason nobody wanted these guys. jeter is awful this year but i still love cano so dont hate on him.

  2. The Yankees have always been over-rated.

  3. right now, yeah.

  4. I don't think you're a true fan (if one at all)  The Yankees have never been overrated.  They will win the East and be a huge presence in the  off season.

How can a team be overrated making the playoffs 13 seasons in a row!!!?

  5. The Yankees aren't overrated anymore  . . .  this year.  At this point in the season nobody is expecting the bombers to have a shot at the wild card let alone win the division.  The pitching is inconsistent but getting better.  The addition of Pudge Rodriguez will add a little more pop to the lineup.  Cano is always better in the second half and the captain always gets in done when the chips are down.  They will most likely make a run at it but unless the sox or rays have a colossal collapse then we might be sitting october out.

  6. This question wasnt a good idea, because all youre going to hear is how overrated we are. The Yankees have a great chance at making the post season, the Red Sox may have effectively run themselves out of the playoff race with the Manny Trade.

I dont think were overrated, because the pitching isnt that bad, and Jeter will get his numbers up sooner or later, and you know he will in October because a certain $250 Million player cant manage to bat .100 in the playoffs.

Cano may look asleep but hes batting a ridiculous average after the break. Melky's just there to play defense.

Wait a few weeks, then Nady and Pudge will start doing thier part. Its a new team for them but theyre great players so give it time.

  7. yankees r cool

  8. I have been saying that for a few years....On Paper in 1999 we are an ALL-STAR team...Too bad it is now 2008 and players just can not offer what they once did...I think Girardi is to blame for some of the younger guys not living up to potential (cano, melky etc.)

  9. yankees blow

  10. No. I think we are rated right where we should be.

The high hopes for Hughes and Kennedy were overrated. But then again they have been injured so who knows.

As a matter of fact the whole team has been injured.

What if A-Rod didnt miss those 20 games, what if Kenndey and Hughes didnt get injured, what if Posada didnt go down, dont forget Jeter went down for a bit in the begining also. Matsui going down.

Wang (our #1 starter) going down. Damon in and out of the line up.

And we are (last time I check) only a a game or so away from the wild card and 3-4 games back of the AL East top spot.

Not too bad. If they were healthy who knows...top spot?

Yankees strive for excellence, and they will get there.

  11. True fans might overrate their team, but it's unusual for true fans to admit to overrating their team. I'm stunned this is coming from a Yankees fan.

The starting pitching is a concern, but if there hadn't been so many injuries, it wouldn't be such a question. Remember where we started. We had Hughes and Kennedy and Wang throwing for us. Kennedy had a rough time (but I'm convinced he'll be great), Hughes struggled a bit, and Wang was fantastic.

Then we lost Hughes and Kennedy to injuries. We lost Wang to an injury not even related to pitching-- baserunning! I've never been so upset with interleague. It was really hard to lose our ace to a foot injury.

Part of Jeter's off year has been injury. What I really like about Jeter are his intangibles. People can say what they want about those not really being factors, but his leadership is like no one. The man wants to win.

He got beamed on the hand by a pitch and still insisted on playing. He went 4-40 after that, but, like a true champion, refused to make excuses. He never once whined about how much is hand hurt or how it destroyed his swing.

Now, at the same time, Jeter could have sucked it up, went to Girardi, and said, "Hey, I can't play." If he'd done that, you've got to wonder who would have filled in, how well he would have filled in, if it would have made a difference.

We also lost Alex for a time. What if he hadn't have gone down?

That's a whole lot of what-ifs that I hate to get into.

The truth is that players will have off years. The Yankees have such a dynamic lineup that it shouldn't have made too much of a difference.

A lot of the lineup went down at various times and there were games when the offense just wouldn't click. When the pitching was on, the offense was off. When the offense was on, the pitching was off. It was a mess. The team should have clicked a lot sooner.

I've been increasingly irritated with Cano's fielding the entire year. He frustrates me in the field. When he goes out there, all I see is a lack of effort. Oh, look, the ball sailed right past him. Oh, look, he could have thrown that ball to first in time but he really wanted to look cool and end up on SportCenter's Top Plays and the guy was safe.

I'm waiting for someone to scold him.

Melky's never really been a great batter, but all the same, I don't think Melky's had too bad of a year. When I think of him at the plate, part of my groaning is how many times they had him bat leadoff when he obviously should not. But statistically, Melky will have the same kind of year he's had the past couple seasons, maybe a little below par.

Considering all the factors you pointed out, the Yankees should be the opposite of overrated. They're making a run at the postseason after the media wrote them out (again). Despite injuries, a sketchy pitching staff, some stupid defense, struggling offense, the Yankees have a winning record and are trying to take the division.

    Overrated? Yeah, right.

  12. Somewhat. Certain players (Jeter and Cabrera) have been overrated, mostly by Yankees fans. I knew going into this year that the team wasn't destined for a great season. After the trades they made, I think they can make a run for it. But let's remember that the pitching, while better than expected, still has issues and isn't as good as the Rays or the Red Sox.

As for Cano: Yeah, he's overrated, too. But he always gets hot in the second half. I wish he could keep it up all season, but some players are like that. And Melky could never really hit great. He's a good center fielder, but not among the best out there.

  13. Yes The Yankees are Overrated Go Mets

  14. The Yankees are overrated by Yankees fans.  Most everyone else figured that they'd struggle (Compared to years past) this year.  And a true fan always overrates their team, at least a little.
