With all the turmoil and drama that seems to be happening at DEI nowadays I thought sure he would bolt to Penske or RCR. In your opinion what did Max or Thresa offer him to make him stay. Is it a good decision???

  1. they probably promised him they would sell the team to a real racing owner before the end of next year.

  2. Martin Truex Jr. is the top driver at DEI. He is the "front-man"

Why would he want to give that up. DEI will back him up with everything they got, and he knows that. Truex has that power at DEI And DEI is a cool team. Martin Truex Jr. is an awesome driver and he deserves "top billing". I hope him and Almirola kick but in "09. And I bet they do!

  3. cuz he is the leader of dei

  4. My guess would be money and maybe, just maybe, he's waiting for the #5 to open up in 2010.

JJ is also now out of a ride.

  5. He hasn't done badly at DEI. A ride is a ride and look at what is available....uhmmm..Penske? RCR is also a viable option but as the top dog (especially with Martin leaving for Hendrick) at DEI and with Bass Pro Shops staying on until 2010,  he really was in the "driver's seat" (sorry bad pun) with this contract negotiation. A lot of drivers are on the outside looking in (JJ Yeley and Dario Franchitti come to mind). He's 17th so far in the standings, which will probably not get him a chase spot, but hey, he has a job with a decent ride and sponsor. Sometimes a bird in the hand......

  6. Teresa probably gave him a sweet deal. If she let him get away, all she'd have left is Aric Almirola, Regan Smith, and Paul Menard. Not much of a dream team.

  7. personally i think that Truex would have better chances on winning and having a better ride with RCR or Penske..whatever the price or 'bribe' was..guess it was a good one and enough to have him sign thru 2010.

Just maybe being top dog is what he waned since Jr left so many things to ponder and to make you wonder..but it's a done deal for now and hopes it pays out for him..Wish him the best of luck with DEI or whatever the name may be when new investors takes over and see if they can top what Theresa and Max had to offer!  Like the saying goes..Money Talks!

Just my opinion, but I think his choice to stay was a bad one, don't hate me

  8. He's biding his time waiting for his dream ride and in the meantime a great paycheck doesn't hurt!!

  9. He over valued himself salary wise and was looked over by other teams.

  10. Teresa put his balls in a vise... sorry, that's all I can think of...

  11. He knows somthing we don't yet  Most likely DEI is going sell shares to someone with deep pockets

  12. he felt sorry for teresa

  13. I'm not sure about this but wasn't he still under contract or was there an option that she could force him to stay another year? I read an article the other day and I thought that is what was said in the article. I'm curious if she may have exercised that option.

I tried to find the article but I am having problems locating it. Maybe someone else will remember it.

This article said there were no outs for Truex and DEI exersized their options of keeping him. Sounds like they forced him to stay to me.

"Siegel said DEI always had the option on next season and that there never was a doubt it would be picked up. As far as he's concerned, there are no outs to the deal and Truex wants to return".

  14. $$$$$_CHA-CHING, the boy got paid I'm sure!! And he may want to express some loyalty to the team that he started with.... my 2-cents.

  15. Evidently he has more loyalty than Dale Jr. himself had to his fathers team. Good for him.

  16. a good paycheck and being top dog

  17. he must be doinkin Theresa

  18. It is probably the best offer he had. DEI is not as strong as it once was. If Truex had not lost 150 points he would be 15th in the points with a shot at the Chase

  19. Easy, it wasn't his choice to leave. If someone wanted to hire him away from DEI, they would of had to buy out his extension. It was the option of DEI to extend not his, he was obligated to stay if DEI wanted him to. Plus now he is set up to take the wheel of the #5 when Mark Martin leaves it. That would make it three years in a row that HMS took a driver from DEI. Pretty funny "3" is the magic #.

  20. Well he only signed to 2009. SO I  think he just wanted to explore more options. ANd maybe give them a chance to improve his car. It looks like the #8 car is doing well this year, without any engines blown.

I don;t see him staying at Dei after next year.

  21. Some people are loyal. DEI is an excellent facility and still has plenty of money.(well maybe not) They can still turn it around. I still like DEI even tho poor little Dale may have got mistreated. As long as they stay Chevy I'll root for them.

Chevy Rules!! 95% of Saturday Night racers can't be wrong!

  22. the answer is money, and not enough of it. reporters were talking weeks ago about him overpricing himself out of a few good rides... guess he wasn't worth what he thought he was and found that staying put is probably better than not driving at all. too bad too, he probably could do very well elsewhere - heck, he managed to make the chase last year when DEI was in disarray, he could probably do REALLY well elsewhere. who knows, maybe DEI will get their act together and he'll end up very happy there. time will tell. bottom line, whatever the deal was, i wish i had it...

    ;-)

  23. I think that he only agreed to the option for next year. But maybe being top dog at a mid-level team is better than third or fourth for a better team.

  24. He couldn't get a better offer I guess................He really isn't all that great....................
