Question:

Trumpet Mouthpiece question?

I'm a four year trumpet player (Sophomore in High School) and I'm currently deciding to purchase a new mouthpiece.

Currently I use a Yamaha 11B4 mouthpiece. Beginners mouthpiece correct?

I need a mouthpiece that would help me increase my range, as in train me. Not cheating my way into a higher range, so that if I use my 11B4 mouthpiece again after using the new mouthpiece, I could finally hit above High D.

To strengthen my chops.

  1. I think you know what opinions are like.  Your band director or local music shop will be good sources for you to test MP's.  Much less expensive than many MPs, and infinitely more helpful is the acquisition of a time tested technical self teaching guide such as Herbert Clarkes and of course The Arbans.  Google Herbert Clarke...cornet studies and the like and if you are serious about 'making your horn sing', a small investment...maybe even downloads, are there for the trek.  Good luck.
