Trumpet Question - lip buzzing

I have been playing trumpet for 4 years now and i don't buzz my lips when i play. I play good but i was wondering are you SUPPOSE to buzz your lips when you play?

  1. Your suppose to buzz ur tongue inside i think....  And ur suppose to or no sound will come out, except the sound of air...

  2. I was always taught that buzzing was the only way to play a trumpet...

    Are you sure your not just buzzing but not realising it????

  3. you probably are buzzing, when you go on the mouthpiece or trumpet, its easy no forget that your buzzing. but when your off the mouthpiece and buzz you just dont hear the big buzz you hear on the mouthpiece but your still buzzing.

    you really cant play the trumpet without some sort of buzzing,

    im thinking ur just not noticing what ur doing.

  5. The trumpet amplifies buzzing made by your lips in the mouthpiece. There's no way you've been playing for 4 years without buzzing your lips.

    Even if you can't buzz your lips without the mouthpiece, you still are buzzing them inside of it. You might want to ask a teacher how your playing sounds and they'll be able to let you know about your embouchure and buzzing.
