Trumpet players: What's that plunger thing called?

It looks like the rubber end of a toilet plunger and some trumpet players use it to manipulate sound.

  1. A mute. It gives the trumpet a oboe sound.


  2. a plunger without a handle... lol jk its called a mute, i used to call it a plunger when i was 5 when i started playing trumpet :)

  3. Well, it's a type of mute that we use to give it a particular sound. As there are many different types of mutes, we just call it a 'plunger' like you did.
