  1. Val Salva is the answer.

Swallow hard. Pinch your nostrils and blow hard into your ears.

  2. During takeoff and landing, the cabin pressure is adjusted. Take deep breaths and swallow or chew gum during takeoff and landing while the pressure is being readjusted. This lets the inside of your body to begin adapting as well. If you don't, then your hearing and possibly other senses will be temporarily impaired.

  3. I think Patricia is right, the best way is to go visit a doctor for a checkup. I have also heard of eartrachea and it doesnt always happen due to listening to loud music. There are three different forms of Eartrachea and the one patricia described is the medium one. You probably have the small one due to your ears having eartrachea before or you being sensitive to having water in your ears if you have swam in a pool before. I would recomment visiting a doctor or using Eartrachea X which you can find in any drugstore. Hope this helped

  4. I have heard of this before during my medical course training. This might happen because you have Eartrachia which is not a desease but only some people have it due to listening to alot of loud music through earphones and it happens because they have sensetive ear drums. Now dont worry, its really nothing too bad. You just have to visit a doctor for a checkup on your ears.

  5. you are going to get some confusing information here is my take on it.

There are two problems here one is noise and the other is preasure.  Lets look at noise first commercial airliners are very noisy places there is the sound of the engines and the air passing over the body of the aircraft this all combines to create a white/pink noise which masks a lot of the other sounds such as conversation.

The other is preasure airliners are preasurised to about 10,000 ft during flight this is lower than sea/ ground level the preasue differential causes your ears to plug up (quick description) chewing gum or sucking on a hard candy works your jaw muscle and makes you swallow allowing your ears to pop.  This works for departure and arrivals.  It is NOT recommended to hold your nose and blow as this can damage your ear drums and they you WILL be in pain just chew gum or suck on a hard candy or get a bottle of water in the secure area and drink it on climb out and landing.
