I've always been interested in going to South Korea and I really enjoy doing volunteer work, so I thought maybe I could put both together. I was wondering if anyone knows of or even has done volunteer work internationally with an organization that happens have a volunteer location in South Korea?

If anyone has any good information I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

  1. South Korea isn't a developing country. There are few, if any, areas of expertise that their own people can't undertake.

Are you prepared to pay? Because you will need to pay for your flights, in-country transportation, health insurance, accommodation, food, security, translators, training, language classes, staff to create the service opportunities and then to supervise and support you in your service, liaisons with the police and local officials, etc.

There is a listing of the more-than-30 member organizations of the International Volunteers Program Association (IVPA) that is a good place to find reputable volunteer-for-a-fee programs -- programs where you don't need to have much experience in order to participate, and the placements are just for a few weeks or months:

The Learning Abroad Center Work, Intern, Volunteer (WIV) Database, hosted by the University of Minnesota, allows you to search work, interhsip and volunteering opportunities all over the globe. There are more than 500 programs to choose from, and you can search by keyword, region, type of program, etc.

  2. What can you DO?... what PROFESSIONAL DEGREES DO YOU HAVE.?

Volunteer organizations don't usually take anyone who can't carry their own weight in the mission.. it's not a tour company.
