Since my grades were terrible my freshman year, my grandma thinks I would be better off in home school. What are the pros and cons of homeschooling?

  1. I am home schooled myself, and I find that it is unbelievably better than public schools. Especially if you are Christian or Catholic.

Being Homeschooled, you have the ability to go on "vacation" and take your school with you. So on the long drive to California, you can pull out your math book and do a few problems.

You have way more options for high school credits than in public schools. Public's have a single curiculum for each class, and although you do get to choose your classes, you get the books everyone else is using instead of the ones that are best for you.

Even when you are homeschooling, you can go to schools that go only once a week. I have been doing that since 6th grade and it is really good if you need extra credits.

Besides vacation, you can do lots of other things, like sports or clubs or something like that. Some of my home school friends even play on public school teams!

This is only based on my own experience and that of my friends, but we do not start school until late September, and end in the beginning of May. When does Public school start? Yeah, it goes a lot longer than that.

Many of the founding fathers and wise people of history were schooled by their parents!

And (no offense to any public school person) studies show that 98% of homeschoolers hake better grades that public school kids on the same IQ tests. They also make better grades.

Last but not least, almost every college in the country (even some in Europe and South America) openly state that an applicant has a significantly greater chance of being accepted if he or she has been through at least one year of homeschooling.

There are so many reasons to homeschool. I am actually surprised that you would ask this since stereotypes have made homeschoolers look like unsocial fools, but I am so glad you asked. If there is anything else you would like to ask, please email me.

  3. I am curious why your grandma thinks you will do any better homeschooling?

Why do you think your grades were bad?  Did you socialize more than study?  Do you have a learning disability that hasnt been diagnosed?  Do you have trouble studying?  Have you tried a tutor? or a peer counselor?   Do you have friends that support and encourage you to do well in class or do you think you may of gotten yourself mixed up with the wrong kind of friends?  I think its hard to answer that question without knowing how you feel and what you think about it all!

I think home school and public school are both good and both bad.   Homeschooling should be done as a well thought our choice with a commitment by the adult and student. Without that it can end up being a bad choice.

9th grade to 12 grade is important because you have to earn so many credits to get the diploma and you are preparing to take the sat's etc.  Its easy to get distracted or discouraged.  Before you decide which way to go ask yourself if you tried everything the school has to offer you for help first.  Ask yourself if you are willing to be self motivated and dedicated on your own homeschooling. And if you will be happy at home.

    good luck!

  4. pros: waking up whenever you want

    doing homework whenever you want

    cheap(mine is 40 dollars a month)

and everything is sent through the mail

    cons: missing friends

missing prom, homecomming and alot of dances

other than that homeschool rocks lol

  5. i think its a bad idea, just prove to her that you can get good grades

  6. Pros:

    Far superior education.

    Work at your own pace.

Actually learning and not just memorizing standard answers.

Much better chances for real socialization, not the forced artificial socialization offered in public school.

Better chance to get into the college of your choice.  Colleges actively seek out home schooled students.

    Cons:

Dealing with people who out of ignorance throw around the "socialization" myth.

  7. Pros:

You get to plan out your own day of work, i.e. what you want to accomplish that day.

You get to start school when you want, and end it when you want. There's a lot of flexibility.

There is not a lot of pressure, from peers or from teachers.

There is a lot of one on one attention, if your parent is teaching you.

You learn a LOT more than anywhere else.

    Cons:

You have to make sure you have all your credits for high school before graduation. Some states have different requirements as far as what you have to take for high school.

You don't have a lot of resources for math, and science.

You don't have dances, prom, etc.

I was home schooled 1st-9th grade. I learned a lot. Now I am going to public school this year and last year i went to catholic. You still get the best in homeschooling.

  8. Try homeschool.

    Cons

Ignorant people who know nothing about homeschool and throw around TONS of myths.

    Pros

    Work at your own pace

    No tardies

    No gross lunches

    CLoser relationship with family

    Learn More

    Have more friends

No catching up after being sick

    No bullies

    No peer pressure

I could go ON AND ON!

Homeschool is definetly something to look into!

    Hope this helps!

  9. You have several different choices. Home schooling isn't for everyone. The work is a lot harder than in regular school. I know because I home schooled my three kids. Maybe you can get free help on the subjects you are weak on. You could always ask the teachers for extra help. Home schooling has draw backs such as interaction with other kids, missing all the dances, proms, field trips, etc. If you are already having problems I would not suggest home school.

  10. home school. public schools are c**p now.
