Question:

Trying for a baby, came off the pill and just started my period......?

I came off the pill on 29th June and started my withdrawal bleed 4 days later. We tried for a baby straight after that and have just started my 'real period' yesterday. I was slightly relieved as I hear this makes it easier for the doc once you are pregnant and also I've heard it can take months for some peoples periods to get back to normal. So does this mean I'm working properly inside and everything should be ok? Was on the pill for 10 years so I didn't expect it to start quite so soon. What will be my most fertile time to try after my period? Is it around day 5 to day 10, something like that? Do you think there's a fairly good chance of me getting pregnant straight away now my periods have started, or could it still take a long time due to the length of time I was on the pill? many thanks.

  1. i was on birth control pills for 6 years, and i've been trying to conceive sinse March.......and no luck! i have my period ever 28 days at around the exact same time in the morning... not only that, i'm 24 years old, and weigh what i should...so you never know.

with my experience, it's difficult getting pregnant after you come off the pill, however some say they can get pregnant on the first try.

best wishes though, hopefully you'll have better luck than us!!

  2. I came off the pill on the 15th Dec, had my withdrawal bleed on the 18th and have had bleeds each month which i thought was my 'real period' however this month I had to see my gyno as i didnt come on and she gave me Provera to take to induce my period. I thought that my body was back to normal, but obviously it isnt. I was on the pill for 10 years also. I think it must still be in my system and the bleeds i have been getting each month still withdrawal bleeds. I am on CD3 now and have been to my gyno today for a blood test to see whats happening.

She did tell me that to work out your ovulation day then work out how many days your cycle is then minus 14, this will give you the cycle day you should ovulate on. You are then fertile 2 days before the day of and 1 day after ovulation.

Baby dust to us both x

  3. doctors usually recommend you wait until you have a few periods before you start after coming off the pill.  right now its too hard to know if your regular and until you know how long your cycle will be off the pill you cant really calculate your fertile time.  the pill makes you have your period every so many odd days, but on your own you could be every 24 or every 26 or 28 or even 32.  you dont know yet.  if you want to start trying best thing to do is get some OPKs to find out when you get your LH surge.  I have about a 24 days cycle and I ovulate around day 14.  so you can see there is not half way through deal or anything like that.  as for getting preggers straight away...its too hard to know.  I've been off for months and months with no luck.  depends on the fertility of you and your partner.  it can take a healthy couple up to and over a year to conceive with no fertility issues.  good luck.

  4. We cant possibly know when you will be likely to get pregnant, you ovulate about 10-14 after the 1st day of your period so you should be having as much s*x as possible around this time, it could take you weeks, months or even years, no-one knows

  5. Hi there good luck to you on getting prego right away. I came off of bc after 8yrs and i didnt get withdrawl bleeding or anything i became pregnant right away so it is possible. I recomend going to this site www.yourdays.com just register and put in the first day of your last period and it will tell you when you are most fertile and when to TTC.

  6. Hi,

I was not on BC as long as you were I was on from June 07 to Jan 08 had with draw bleed for 3 days my next period came February 15 08. I got Pregnant April 08 (miscarried though in June TTC again!!) I HIGHLY recommend going out to the store and buying OPKs(ovulation predictor kit) The day you stop bleeding take the test every day at the recommend time untill you get a positive reading.. this means you will be ovulating 24-36 hours later and to get to work!! I would suggest (if your SO has a good sperm count) having s*x every night. Start a couple days before you get your + for example if you have a 32 day cycle start having s*x areound cycle day 8 ( that would be 8 days from the start of your period) if your not still bleeding/spotting of course!

And seeing how you are saying your body got back on track I'd say if you really try then you should get preg soon. I was on it for 6 months and got preg with in 3 months after my first period.. Good luck!

  7. I was on the pill for 7 years, and i just stopped it one day. 3 months later i got pregnant. It can take longer, but the best bit of advice anyone could give is to not think about it. I know it's hard, but we conceived when we stopped thinking about it and just got on with life. I am trying to conceive again as i did miscarry, so saying to relax and actually doing it can be hard. I wish you all the luck in the world. X x
