Question:

Trying out for hs <span title="volleyball.........volleyball">volleyball.........volley...</span> players needed!?

ok so i have about 5 months in order to work on skill and getting in shape for volleyball. the highschool im going to has a really great volleyball team but its really hard to make the team. although i am a good volleyball player, i really wanna make this team to improve my skiils.

so my questions to all you volleyballl players is

1) what are some things that i can do to get in shape?

2) what are some things that are usually tricky at tryouts?

3) are there any drills that i can work on, now, to help me improve??

  1. Hey Leslie,

    Ok, much of what that other girl said was good.

    Getting in shape:

    Pushups, calf-raises, jump-rope, sit-ups

    Those are all easy to do and don&#039;t require much stuff.

    If you do running, I would recommend that you do sprints instead of distance because distance will train you wrong. I ran cross country and played volleyball, and when I stopped distance running my vert went up a good bit.

    Drills-

    If you are by yourself :( then you are limited to passing, setting, and serving against a wall.

    To mix it up: You can simulate serve receive against the wall. Go 10-15ft back from it and serve controlled to the wall and practice passing the ball up to an imaginary setter at the base of the wall. You can also do this high and work on setting serves.

    Tricky drills? Don&#039;t worry about figuring out what drills they will have you do, just get in 1/2hr of practice every day. If you really have to know though, ask some girls who were at tryouts last year.

    Oh, I forgot this...

    It&#039;s a good idea to do the easy exercises before you go to bed at night. Do some pushups, sit-ups, calf-raises, and one more. Do one leg squat jumps. Just get on one leg, go down to 90 degrees and then go up fast.

  2. 1) Do push ups, sit ups, run, and practice running on tip toes

    2) Being ready to dive for the ball if you have no knee pads,

         be ready to volunteer

    3)throw a vollyball up against a brick wall, and just practice bumping and setting it back up

    tricky @ tryouts:

    -coaches will toss you the ball and you have to pass it to a certain spot

    -serving- (over head) coaches look for a very powerful serve NOT underhand.

    Drills: go on the side of ur house or to a brick wall. Practice hard serves.

    Also set against the wall and keep the ball going.

    Bump the ball against the wall and keep the ball goin.

    remember coaches look for control; dont make the ball go everywhere when u hit it.

    Learn to control ur passes and u will definitly make the team.
