  1. It might help you get a little better but with out a coach telling you what you are doing wrong and how you can improve it you could just end up with a lot of bad habits.

  2. Sounds like my school team. If you happen to know the basics, that's even better for your chances to make the team because you'll obviously have the advantage over your fellow players in terms of experience, even if it's just a little experience, and you'll get better at it because of all the practice that comes with being on team. I joined the tennis team my freshman year and I didn't know squat, but I'm in college now and I can keep up in a match with some of my friends who happen to be ranked in the USTA.

In terms of getting better, the question you have to ask yourself is whether you are willing to come out and practice your tennis skills during the offseason? You don't have to hire a coach to hone your skills (but if you can, do it), but practicing on a wall or playing with friends will make you a better player with time.

  3. being on the team will definitely improve your game.

firstly, you will gain valuable playing experience from practicing. After all practice makes perfect, right? secondly, even if you only know the basics, playing with your teammates will help you garner new skills.

getting a couple of tennis lessons wouldn't be such a bad idea either =]

  4. playing on a team requires some skill... u will get  better by playing with people that are better than u. Challenge yourself and set high standards and goals.
