  1. Find someone who can show the basics (Setting, spiking, blocking, bumping and serving) after you get the basics down. As a coach it all about effort, desire, willingness to learn, respect for the game. If you were trying out for my squad, these are the things i would want you to know. Note: if you are going to play remember "i go, i got it, and mine" this is to let everyone know that you are playing the ball. Good Lukc to both of you. I'm glad you are joining the awesome world of volleyball.

  2. Definitely pick yourself up a volleyball and start working with it. First, maybe just toss it back and forth between yourselves (or toss and catch if you're by yourself) to get a feel for the weight of the ball and how it arcs and such.

It's best to have someone show you basics, i.e. underhand passing ("bumping") and overhand/"volleying," and serving (best to start with underhand) so that you don't pick up bad habits from the beginning.

Lastly, just make sure you're in good physical shape, volleyball requires quick movements and high jumping, so cardio workouts will definitely help.

    Good luck with the tryouts!!

  3. start practicing you're bumping, you're hitting and you're serving. Just remember to stay confident and if you mess up it's okay, you've never played before don't expect to be the best persons there. I'd say do a lil running and conditioning before try outs also.
