  1. Welcome to the club.   Start with small projects.  This race will be a difficult one.  You may use: My Best Recycling Idea

Besides recycling the plastic containers, you can improve your work or home environments by bringing live potted plants indoors.

    Major items needed:

One empty plastic gallon container.   Tree Top Apple Juice is preferred, or equal in shape.

One empty plastic ½ gallon container.  Langers All Pomergranate Juice is preferred or equal.

Directions:  Lay the plastic gallon container on its side so the front label is facing up.  Place the empty plastic half gallon container on the label and with a sharpie pen outline the bottom on the Tree Top label and with a sharp knife carefully cut the outline.  Insert the half gallon into the hole until it rest on the back label of the gallon container.  Then mark and cut approximately one inch above the cut on the ½ gallon  to complete your planter container.  Remove and drill several ¼ inch holes on the bottom of the ½ gallon cut container for drainage.

Fill the cut ½ gallon planter with one inch of gravel before putting in good potting mix soil and live growing plant.  If you make two or more you can pour the water back and forth and not waste the water with the nutrients.

Go to NASA’s Clean Air Plant Study for the top ten plants that cleans the indoor air better than the rest.   http://www.zone10.com/tech/NASA/Fyh.htm

  2. First ask yourself the question what impact am I having on the environment and what environment are you trying to protect. Environmentalism is not about what you don't do as much about what you do. The legendary Al Gore has shown us repeatedly what it means to be an environmentalist. His example shows us that you need to fly on private jets, drive and ride in SUV's, Own Oil Company stock, etc. One tool to get you on your way towards environmental consciousness is to go to a website and that has a carbon calculator and count your effects on the planet. Once you know your foot print, you can work to shrink it by acting like Al Gore. If you are a conservative and a conservationist, than you will recycle, travel limitedly and produce your own energy via renewable sources. If you have a yard and your state allows it you can compost and create and use your own bio-fuels. There are many good ideas out there. Just remember that asking yourself the questions what can I do, how can I improve and how will my actions impact my environment.

  3. -Unplugging unused electronics like computers, tv's, and printers will save energy (look up vampire energy).

-Turning off lights when not in use.

    -bring your own bag

-dont buy any bottled water.  it's no better than tap but if u still arent confident on the water supply get a water filter instead.

    -reduce, reuse, recycle

-choose reusables over disposables whenever possible

    thats all i got

  4. Sure you can...some things are very easy

Unplug appliances that are rarely used

Turn off TVs and other electrical things when going to sleep

    Recycle bottles, cans and cardboard

    Use the energy-efficient light bulbs

Wash some clothing in cold, and line dry

Bring a canvas bag grocery shopping, instead of using paper or plastic.

See, not so hard.  The more you get used to it, the easier it becomes, and the more you will do for the environment.  :)

  5. try not to waste things, even time.

  6. get a hybrid?

  7. I think the best effort of trying to be an environmentalist is to start yourself in your living community. Drive less, try to use car pool to work or to school and back (if possible), try to use least plastic bags or to use the reuseable bags instead in most of your shoppings, try to take as much buses as possible, try to walk all short distant trips, try to use the least energy, try to use electricity wise lights, and many other basic thing to protect your environment easily. Bear in mind of the 4R concept in your daily life, think about Reduce, Replace, Reuse and Recyle all the time.

You may also join the environmental protection group to boycott the manufacturers producing the environmental polluting products. By organizing or participating with local citizens to sign petition and submit to your local authority for environmental protection plans in dealing with clean and safety drinking water supply and cleaner air city. Hong Kong has just listed as the most polluted city in this world. The root causes are the trapped foul air from Pearl Delta industry of China, the two fossil power generating stations, the car flow capacity is more than 400/km. There are more than 1.5 million citizens are contracted with air pollution caused chronicle diseases of asthma, heart and lung. A tiny city with the most densely established skyscrapers in this world, the daily API (air pollution index) is recorded 60-100 on a daily basis, and in the past two weeks of 147 (Causewaybay), 166 (Central), and 133 (Mongkok). The World Health Organization (WHO) granted the global API is 30. Do you want to live in Hong Kong?

  8. Take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up over it. Many of us are of the generation that throws everything away. It does take some getting used to and it is hard. Even a little bit helps and each day it gets easier.

  9. do what you can

we've switched to www.mrsmeyers.com/  their products are all natural / green

    Walk more

  10. Being an environmentalist is stupid. My suggestion would be to just drop the whole thing.
