Trying to buy a car on craigslist. Does this sound legit? ?

So I'm trying to buy a car on Craigslist, and this car is a VERY good deal, it seems too good to be true. The thing is though, that she wants me to pay over ebay, and the car would be "shipped" to me

Can you guys read this message and give your opinion on whether or not I'm getting scammed.

Thanks

Hi there,

I am not in town for the moment because I now live at my parents house, and the car is at a warehouse ready to be

shipped.

Because I am not in town, I can't make the deal my self ( not that I don't want to, just because I can't ) I have a

great ideea and it could work if you want to see it first...so for you to receive the car and make the payment, I shall

first need a guarantee that you are really interested in the car. So if you would like, please go to a MoneyGram office

and deposit the money on a close friend's name or a relative of yours, just put the money on one of they're name and

send me a copy of the payment receipt so I can check with MoneyGram to see if you really made the deposit and made the

first step. After all clears I will shipp the car to you, through eBay (for the shipping costs and handling I already

told you that they are included in the car's price). You will receive the car and if you like it after you inspect and

test drive the car you will sign all the cars paperwork and the car will be yours, after that you can transfer the money

in my personal bank account.

Please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thank you very much,

XXXXX

  1. No its a SCAM. A known SCAM on Ebay and Craigslist. You cant sell a car on Craigslist and use Ebay for services. EBay and craiglist are just like the newspaper for advertising only they don't handle the transaction. Also he don't even own the car he just got the info off another ad . If you send your money it is lost and you can not get it back. He will tell you anything to get your money and your personal info. Stop all communications and Buy local so you can see and feel what you are buying. This is a SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM.....ujn

  2. Hey I can gurantee you its a scam.  I had a friend had something like this and after he sent him the money he never received and answer. You won't be able to track the guy down because he is most likely using a fake email. Also if the car is much cheaper than its worth its a sign. So i suggest you to stay away. If the guy wanted to sell the car he would meet up with you.

did i mention its a SCAM? i've told some people this, but they still do it and end up screwed. The general rule is: if you have to ask Is this a scam? its a scam.

NEVER offer any money on a car thats being shipped- you'll NEVER get it.

Don't do money transaction through ebay, moneygram, or any other money forwarding sites- they do this so they can get out and go as quickly as possible.

  4. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I would never buy a car online. You need to see it and drive it before any money changes hands.

  5. stay away. IT"S A SCAM.

  6. Scam.  There is no car.

  7. Scam or no scam, why would anyone buy a car they have never seen, never inspected, and never driven?????
