Hi! I am trying to buy something online from a store in france (www.lamarelle.net) My total came to 59,68. I was wondering is that comma used as a dot or is that really 5,968 euros. I only bought paper stuff (Notebook post card etc.)

Thanks!

  1. yeah the , is used as a . so it is 59.68

but i would try adding all the stuff you bought just in case

  2. In France (and in many other countries), we write numbers in a different way than you do in the US.

A comma (,) separate the integer part of the number from the rest, when in the US, you have a dot (.) instead.

Also, in France, there is no comma to separate the thousands.

Example : a number in the US written this way : 1,439.45

would be written this way in France : 1 439,45 or even sometime 1439,45

So your total is 59 euros and 68 cents, or 59.68 Euros ;)

To know more about the decimal separator : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_sep...

more than half of the world uses the comma instead of the dot.

    Hope this helped!

  3. It means 59 Euros and 68 cents. Unless the website lets you pay it in another currency.

If the number was large they would use spaces in between a few digits, normally every 3 digits.

  4. Heyy

I had a simular problem somewhere else,

    It is 59,68€uros

They use a comma for the price instead of a full stop (.) For A reason i don't know! Which can make it more confusing as it seems to look as if the comma is making it look like a "thousand" unit.

    according to  "xe.com"

The exchange rate is from 59,68 € is

Approximatly If you live in my country  (UK) - £48 or

    USA US$ 87

    =]

    Hope this helps
