Trying to call a japanese mobile?

my friend is now doing an exchange program in montreal and she says she has her mobile from japan and that it works. is there a way to call it and would it be cheaper than calling japan?

I am assuming your friend has a Japanese cell provider too. In that case you would be calling Japan if you are calling your friend. You would be billed International calling. Maybe you should call your friend using a phone card instead.
