Trying to convert analog vhs tape to digital using digital pass through on my digital camcorder.?

My Elura 100 digital camcorder has the pass through option. I set the camcorder to play and switch it to accomadate the pass through. I connect my vcr to the camcorder. I connect my camcorder to computer via firewire cable. The video software opens up on my computer. I hit play on my vcr. At this point nothing happens. I imagine it is as simple as hitting record on my video editing software, but the buttons are not active. I've tried Nero software and Windows Movie Maker. They both indicate that there is no tape in the camcorder. Which is what I want. I'm not supposed to have a tape in for this process. Any ideas?

Thanks

  1. Page 104 in the manual is confusing at best - everything else in the manual, including the diagram on page 104, says you should use firewire.  Some camcorders only allow pass through when there's a tape loaded - given the errors you're getting I'd try loading a tape.

  2. I took a look at the manual.  It seems that the pass thru recording only works over the USB connection, not the firewire connection.  Try that.  See page 104 in the manual.
