Ok, I know you all will think Im stupid for asking because Im just some 17 year old on yahoo answers...heh, but I still dont know what I want to study in college and I need help with choosing the general path I want to take.

Right now I know that I loove kids, I would like to figure out a job that I can work with kids, preferably like, 10 and under? And my mom always says "maybe a teacher", but I like the idea of one-on-one teaching or helping them, whatever. And even like three or four kids, but I dont think I could handle a class of them...heh.

Ahhh....I know that there is no rush, but everyone has been telling me that for sooo long, and I really want to start thinking about the future.

Please dont think I'm stupid for asking... =/

I just need some help, I REALLY don't know alot of jobs. I just know like, very broad categories.

Comments would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!!

  1. What about a special education teacher, they are in very high demand so you can get a job anywhere with a degree in that. Also the classroom sizes are much smaller than normal because each student has special needs. OR how about a degree in Educational Psychology a school district hires you to give IQ tests to a child or assess their behavior and seek a solution to it. Normally people change their majors in college or don't even have one the first year so don't worry about it you'll figure it out.

  2. You could major in psychology (I am). There are soooo many things you could do with a degree in psych, especially with kids. You could be a social worker, a counselor (with groups or one on one), a child therapist (one on one), all of which you would be helping children. Also if you ever got sick of working with kids you could just get a different job working with adults. If you enjoy teaching, but don't want a boatload of kids, you could go into Special Ed. Those are always smaller classes with more than one teacher and the kids are usually fun to work with. You could basically do any kind of therapy ( i.e. physical therapy, music therapy). Or you could be a pediatrician! Helping sick children get better or keeping them healthy I imagine would be quite rewarding. It's never too late or too early to think about your future! I think it's great that you're reaching out to other people to search for career options. I hope I've helped!

  3. You could become a child psychologist - You can start by studying psychology at university, then I think you specialize at some point maybe during post-grad? I'm not too sure how it works but I'm sure a guidance councilor could give you more info.
