Trying to find a cord that connects camcorder to computer?

Hi I have a Canon ZR500 digital video camcorder. It records to a mini DV (digital video) cassette. I want to find the cable that connects to the camcorder so I can upload my footage to a Computer. What kind of cable do I need to find? where can I find this cable?

  1. most use a firewire cable.. 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable..

    the port should look like a square with a indentation on the top..

    some also use a mini usb to usb cable.. which would look like a weird shaped oval. with the top being wider than the bottom


  2. you might need a firewire cable.  Go to your best buy or radio shack.

  3. Canon ZR500, a miniDV vcam, must be FIREWIRE400**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* software while vcam is ON PLAYBACK.  Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin.

    Before cable purchase** (Vcam/4pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC (4/ 6pin?), check DV or firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, procure firewire card: pci for pc or pcmcia for laptop.

    2. Edit- drag/drop video files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles

    3. Finish (render)- save Movie file, also save Project* ** file

    4. Share-burn to CD (if DvD, use DvD authoring app, e.g.,DvD Flick, Nero, etc.)

    For Vista/wmm6, t’is similar: Import/ Edit/ Publish/ WindowsDVD or Nero for authoring

  5. It seems like you need a USB cable. You can find this type of cable on Froogle or tigerdirect.com
