Question:

Trying to find a grain-free food for my mature cat...

My cat is getting older and, after educating myself, I want to do everything I can to prevent cancer, tumors, and organ failure with a better, healthy diet.

I want to get my cat off of a dry food diet. I consulted this site for information: http://www.1doctorschoice.com/GrainFree-CatFood.html but I cannot buy food online. Can anyone recommend to me healthy, grain-free food as illustrated on the link that I can buy at a local petstore that is full of healthy natural vitamins?

  1. Hi Ruby,

Good for you in weaning your cat from cat food which contain grain. Your cat will be a lot healthier as a result.

Petco now is selling Wellness cat food and also Natural Balance cat food. Both of them are grainless. The Venison and Peas from Natural Balance is similar to the product you posted, except it is made with peas instead of potatos.

You can purchase them at Petco at their stores. I am so glad that they have added nutritionally sound canned cat foods. It is about time.

Both of the above foods are nutritionally excellent. Both my cats have been on these foods for years and love them.

Make sure you switch foods over slowly, mixing the new brand with the old one, until all your are feeding is the grain free. Cats digestive systems are very sensitive and can get digestive upset if changes are too quickly made.

Hope you have a Petco near you.

    Good luck with your cat!

  2. try looking for an all natural, holistic food. there is a shop called bone appetit that sells dry cat food that is meat based. cats' digestive system is designed to break down secondary calories... meaning they are BUILT TO EAT MEAT!!! cats evolved in a desert/savannah type region, and adapted to eating only meat. cats cannot digest grains or plant material like a dog because they arent omnivorous. they are carnivores and the only way you are guaranteed  a grain free meal is holistic or canned cat food.

  3. raw meat :) Some cats take to it quicker, mine were barn cats used to eating mice and whatnot, so they took to it quickly.

    Look it up.
