Question:

Trying to find light switch magnets to remind people to turn lights off?

When I was in school, the light switch covers in all our classrooms had magnets on them that fit around the switch and said to turn off the lights when leaving the room. You know, kinda early attempts at saving power, being green, that sort of stuff.

Do you know where I can find this sort of thing?

  1. try WAL MART  or if you have DOLLAR STORES in your area some discount store is sure to have them in the kids section perhaps or electrical section. Also try your local utility company they may have promotional items of that sort for free.

  2. I don't know about magnets.  I've only seen stickers.

Do a websearch for "turn off light switch stickers" or "save energy light switch stickers" and you'll find templates so you can print your own, as well as places you can order them.    Some will even send out a few stickers for free.  None of the ones I found actually fit around the switch, they just go on the switchplate, above the toggle.

I don't know how many you were looking for.  Large quantities may be more difficult to find.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Good idea but I've never seen these magnets. Did they fit over the switch itself?

You could install motion sensors but that's expensive and they consume a trickle of electricity 24/7 so it's not an ideal solution. A timer could also work if it's a lamp that gets left on, you can find mechanical ones that don't draw electricity I believe.

Is it for a classroom, office or your home? In my case, I only made sure the lights were off when I started to pay the electric bill, up till then it was a lot less important to me.

If it's for your home you could impose a fine on whoever leaves them on, but that's harder to do in a classroom or office.
