Question:

Trying to find my Grandfather (adopted)?

I am trying desperately to find more information on my Grandfather. He was adopted, we think from St. Vincent's Orphanage in Chicago, Illinois. We do not know his birth name, although he did manage to find some scraps of information before he died. Is there someplace (OTHER than Ancestry.com, genealogy.com, etc.) where I can find the records from his adoption? We have tried contacting the Orphanage, but I don't believe that they even exist anymore. Also, I don't believe that Illinois law will allow for my Mom and I to have these records, and when we last spoke with someone from the orphanage, they refused to open the records for us, even though my Grandfather passed away in 1988. Please, any help that you can offer would be most appreciated!!
