Question:

Trying to find temporary home for cat or long term cattery stay?

Hi, My wife and myself live and work abroad and moved away leaving our cat with a relative 6 months ago. Unfortunately this relative has been neglecting the cat and we have had to come back to the U.K. just to arrange him a new home. We return again to the U.K. next April but require a temporary home for moggy until then. I have asked several catteries but they will not consider a stay of this length in time. We have also tried many friends but they cannot help. Please note we cannot take the cat with us as we cannot devote the time to him unfortunately plus I donot think he would be happy.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know as this is a very urgent matter?

Thank you!

  1. I own a cattery in Canada and we have had cats stay with us for 6 months - long term boarders are not uncommon. So i am not sure why the catteries in the UK are telling you this?. Maybe ask a few more or ask the ones you have asked why they will not consider this. Maybe they are worried that you'll abandon the cat, so offer a credit card so they can take payment monthly and they'll realise that you are coming back for your cat.

  2. give him to a loving home or sell him on x

  3. Hi,this will be hard but have you considered getting him adopted.Mind try these http://dogstrust.com

They might be able to help

    Good Luck

  4. I would try cats protections http://www.cats.org.uk/

They are a national organization and might be able to help out. If you are going to be coming and going for a long time might it not be better to try and get this one rehomed and then maybe get another one once you are settled?

  5. why have pets if you cant look after them due to moving away for months on end!!

give the cat to a caring loving home! and stop messing it around

  6. Try this charity, they are very good, although they are Scottish based they might be able to direct you to what suits your needs.

  7. Contact local cat rescue organisations and ask them if they know of anyone willing to foster your cat till you return to the UK.  The link below has a list of all cat shelters in the UK.

It's worth asking at local vet clinics, if they can refer you to a reputable foster carer or reliable pet sitter.

  8. Find a rescue group- not a shelter. Rescue groups normally foster in homes instead of cages. In a rescue group he'll find his furever home- rescue groups go to lengthy matters to find a good home. Also, most rescue groups won't euthinize an animal once it's time is up.

  9. the problem with taking the cat out of the UK is that when you return she/he would have to go into six months quarantine unless you do a bunch of stuff six months before returning to the UK... called PETS. but i do find it strange that 'devoting time' to the cat is your obstacle for taking him/her with you. cats don't need any, or very little, time devoted to them. leaving a cat at a cattery is obviously far more traumatic for the cat than traveling with it and not 'giving it enough time'. so i am confused. you think he'd be happier in a cage and attended to by strangers than being with you on your travels? we found someone for our cat abroad until the six months after the blood test (see PETS traveling to UK) has cleared. she is a very difficult cat (doesn't like people) but they are very good friends, and we offered money. someone will take your cat if you are paying well. a cattery is expensive so you might as well pay well.

  10. goto a kennel

  12. Maybe finding a new owner is best for the cat. Try petfinder... Do not give the cat away for free though. Make sure it finds a loving home.
