i really really need a job, and im going to be home for the whole summer except for 3 weeks, when im going to camp. and if i get a good job, i wont go if i have to.

ive gone into many stores, fillen out applications, and given out my resume. I look older than 14, so theyre usually pretty willing to consider me/take my resume/give me an application, but when i tell then im 14 they get weird. either

1) their store has a policy that employees must be 16+

2) the tell me theyll call me if work comes up, with a sad little smile.

3) they say no, and look at me like im dirty.

is it impossible to find a job at 14?

where are places i could maybe find work (i live in toronto)

any help would be appreciated :D

  1. I live in Oakville, I got a job right after grade 8, so that's 14 pretty sure.

Anyways, since you have no experience working, most places are reluctant to hire you because, well lets face it you're 14.

    Try these places,

Tim Hortons (this is where I worked at 14, they hire anybody)

    McDonald's (even monkeys get hired)

Pretty much any fast food place

    Dish washing

Paper route (had one where I had to deliver by 6am at like 11, you can find some with decent pay like Globe/Star)

Best place to go is the mall, go to Eaton's centre or whichever mall you live close to, and drop off a resume at every place in the food court, and malls are amazing to work at, cause it's perfect temperature and s**y girls! Not to mention you meet people and get hooked up at other stores.

  2. unforch im in the same position, i live in ireland tho. i checked the constitution and it says under 15s can work for 35 hours in a week in summer hols but no place will give me a job!! its really stupid and i need to save up for this coming year--cos its a year in school where we do loads of trips and my folks cant afford it all!! plus im low on cash and have nothing to do this summer. ill be back to see if you get any good comments.

  3. i now live in toronto (20 years old), didnt when i was your age, but i did start working at 14.  Try getting a dishwashing job at a restaurant, they usually will hire around 14.

There is a age range of 16-65, that you have to bein that area, otherwise they can use age as a reason not to hire.

But yeah, i worked in a restaurant from 14-16, and im sure you could get into one as well.. usually can move up there fast as well to a line cook
