Question:

Trying to get my computer to recognize my dv camcorder!!?

I have a JVC mini DV camcorder and I've already bought a firewire cable and a firewire-USB adapter. However, when I plug it in, and it is in playback mode, my computer recognizes it but says that something is malfunctioning. I bought the cord that my camera's instruction book said to. I really am hoping I didn't just totally waste 200 bucks or will have to spend more so any help would be appreciated!!!

  1. Sounds like you need to update a driver. What model JVC and your OS?

  2. 33333333333

  3. Three words: Get A Mac.

Otherwise, you're going to have to get an actual Firewire card for your PC, or if it's a laptop get a PCMCIA or ExpressCard Firewire card. If that's not an option, then you're out of luck, and therefore should revert to my first suggestion. Firewire is much faster than USB, so using an adapter is going to cause problems.

  4. I would try leaving the two of them in the room alone.  Maybe dim the lights, put on some Barry White, leave a glass of wine on the desk, and see where that goes.
