I am 15 1/2 resident of the US. I am spending the summer in Europe when back after the summer 1 month later I am 16. I want to get my drivers license. I know how to drive a stick perfectly and all that other stuff, because I was taught, but haven't taken one single course or gotten any info. What do I need to do to get my license ? Any info of what I should do right now in Europe along with when I come back and the requirements would be really appreciated. Thanks

  1. First don't drive stick on course.  Things happen.  you need to focus on the driving part of the course, so drive an auto if you can.  To get your licence you need to be 16, and pass a permit exam.  after the exam you need to drive with a passenger who is over 18 and has a licence.  After you feel comfortable you can schedule a drivers test.  You will need to prove the basic skills.  Paralell parking,  seat belts, starting and stopping are all on the test.  You will need to get a permit book at  your local dmv.  They are free and will have all the info you need.

  2. This kind of thing varies by state. Usually there is a written and/or road test that you need to pass but it varies by state. Check out your local DMV or DOT website per your state of residence.

    Check this out:http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dlapp_lnks.htm

You need proof of residence, ID (Passport, birth certificate), parent's signature, take and pass a certified driver's ed course, pass a rules of road and sign test, pass vision test and then I guess you get a provisional license for <18 year olds. d**n California sucks, I thought IL was bad!

  3. There is a booklet you can get from the motor vehicle department which includes alot of the material you need to know in order to get your license.  Ask some of your friends if they have that booklet and what questions they recall from the test.  If they have any info, have them e-mail it to you.  You will have to know the laws in your state as to how far to park from a fire hydrant, who has the right-of-way, when to turn your headlights on, how far ahead you have to signal, if a right turn on red is permitted, do passengers need to wear seat belts (they do in my state)....and other questions.   You also may take an instructor on a little drive around the area of the MVD.  If you do, stay cool & watch out for stop signs where you wouldn't expect them, look for the speed limit sign and don't exceed it, adjust your mirrors first.
