Hi I'm trying to go to San Francisco, CA from Torrance, CA. I dont have a car and I'm wondering if metro buses can go all the way there. Do you guys think that it is possible to bicycle there? I was also thinking of hitchhiking. (by the way if you have any tips and where to hitch hike) . But if there is some kind of train or bus that goes down there I would really like to know. Thanks a lot.

  1. take the (think its green line from Torrance) to Union Station (in Los Angeles) by taking Northbound train.

At Union Station you can take the Amtrack train from Union Station to San Francisco (if memory serves me right its about a 5 hour trip do to stops.

  2. Get to LA Union Station using Metro (bus or rail).  Then you can take Amtrak up to SF.

Alternatively, you can take a bus all the way, either Greyhound or Megabus (google them for the rates).

  3. Doubt if Metro bus routes would cover the 400 mile distance.  Try Greyhound or Amtrak.

  4. local San Francisco transit goes only as far as San Jose.  You will need to take a greyhound or Amtrak, or fly.  Don't try hitch hiking,  it would take forever and be dangerous .  You could ride your bike but it would take some time to cover 400 miles,

  5. yes you can take *local* transit(a lot of buses) to the bay area

(myself and friend did try this  (althought it took a couple of

days)so you would need money to spend a night in a motel or something)

also all the buses we used also had bike racks

plus you can bike it (in fact bikes are allowed on I-5 from

Lake hughes road all the way to Sacrmento!

another idea is to take megabus (from Union stationif you book far engouh in advance your ride might be only $1.00!

I would aslo advise agasint hitchhiking

if you want to know the routing we took -you can email me

just check for my profile its there)
