Question:

Trying to help my brother in law learn how to read...details below?

he is 26 yrs old and can read a little but i believe he is dyslexic, or his mother never taught him to read. he quit school at 16, and now him and my sister have a baby on the way. i'm tryng to figure out if there is a program or something out there that can help him.

  1. At age 16 he should have the basics down, if you have a child on the way good time to get some kids books and work books. He needs to have the willingness to learn and willing to practice reading and writing.  


  2. wel for one you have to understand he is probably embarrassed about not being able to read. so talk to him first and see if he wants to learn.i would think if he is dyslexic it will be a long hard road. try  some short childrens books first, or something like archie comics. maybe also hooked on phonics.you can also buy the kids cooks that when you point over a word it tells you how to say it. they are preschool books i believe. good luck, it will be hard.

    Also, he could enroll at his local college. They will be able to do tests to find out whether he is dyslexic, and give him any extra support he may need in his choice of course. They would be able to give better advice as to where to go from here. Good luck to you both x
