Trying to hook up a DVD recorder to my series 2 tivo.?

I have it hooked up to reciever/dvd player, cable box. My picture goes in and out when Iturn on the dvd recorder. Someone help please.

two possibles:  1   the cables are not pushed all the way in.  More common than you think.  2.  push the tv/video button on the remote until you see the what the dvr is playing.  You might have to push the tv/dvd button as well, if you have one on the remote.
