  1. the grey wire is your tach sender.

    white is anybody's guess.

    find the fuse box, look for an empty slot.

    if no empty slots, tap into the positive feed to the fuse box and add an inline fuse holder.

    make sure your wire gauge and fuse are matched as to amp capacity, and don't exceed the specs of the plug.

    try to pull too many amps thru too small a wire, it will get hot enough to melt the insulation and start a fire.

    I read "...my boat it has a grey wire and a white wire..." as meaning your boat has a grey & white wire.  boy do I feel silly.


  2. Standard DC wiring practice is that the wire to the center of the plug is the positive lead and the wire to the outside contact is the negative lead. The colors that you mention are not so unusual as there is no set standard for wire colors for DC accessories.
