Trying to phone Berlin..Germany?

Question

I have to call the owners of the apartment im renting, both their home and mobile numbers begine with 49 and have another 10 numbers...and all I get is "number error".

Ive tried putting 0044 instead, still wont work.

Im calling from the UK

No zero after 49,

the area code for Berlin is traditionally 030, could be more meaning that the location is outside of Berlin.

Usually from UK to Berlin, Germany it is 0049-30-xxxxxxxx

however, sometimes (not sure if it was when you are calling from a mobile) you have to use the "+" instead of the 00

i.e. +4930xxxxxxx

o11 49 30 ....number

49 is germany, 30 is Berlin

and if its a mobile phone you just leave the first zero after the 49 out, for example 011 49 170 instead of 0170
