  1. if you are trying to reinstall a serpentine belt, it is possible to route it in a more productive manner and have too much slack. what i mean by more productive is that you can hit all of the pulleys and still have some slack. in that engine bay you should be able to locate diagram that will lay out the routing of that belt so that you can match it up correctly. try that and see of that resolves the problem.

  2. They don't come in small, medium and large, they come specific to your vehicle. Go back to the store, tell them your year, make, model. Let them know your engine size and what options( A/C, power steering, etc.) and you'll get a belt that fits properly.

  3. Take it to a mechanic. You're not qualified to do this.

  4. You need to pull back the tensioner pulley until you can fit the belt around everything, its best to get someone pull back the tensioner pulley then you can fit the belt around everything. After you have the belt all in place the person holding back the tensioner pulley should slowly put it back in place. You should get some assistance from someone who has done it successfully before, or it would be easier to get it done by a mechanic.

  5. is there a diagram on the box of how the belt fits onto the pulleys and past the tensioner if not google 1 usally when you do a belt you should also do the bearing on the tensioner look in the cars service hand book itll proberlly have both and tell you the length the belt should be so you can test measure it

  6. belts are engine specific. Ie: the belt from a 2008 Chev genIV 6.0 with air and steer will fit just about only that application. (there are exceptions to this, but it is mostly the case).

make sure you have the EXACT belt you need, and look at either the belt installation diagram under the hood on the sticker or in the owners manual.

It may also be the case your belt tensioner is damaged and not holding the belt 100% taught.
