  1. what is the script error?

    go to 'my computer' > tools > folder options > view > uncheck hide protected  files. Then start > search > type in the search box: desktop.htt. It will be in Docs and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Delete them. Restart the computer

    Then go and rehide the protected files  


  2. right click on the desktop and choose "properties". In the opened windows choose "desktop". Click on "customize desktop" the on "restore defaults"...

    Im not sure, but it seemed like you are using Windows 2000 Professional or even Windows 98, isn't you?

  3. if on IE 7 , uninstall it from control panel . add /remove programs.

    if not on ie  

    Open an explorer window and go to tools > folder options > view, and uncheck hide protected operating system files. click apply.

    press F3 (search box) or click on start menu> search

    search this file on your computer

    desktop.htt

    when its found delete it.

    click on  Start >Run, type and enter regedit

    Go to this key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\I... Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components

    Change the value of DeskHtmlVersion to zero instead of decimal 272.

    restart computer.
