Trying to set up a 5.1 stereo system w/ pioneer reciever?

I bought a Pioneer DVD player/reciever combo, got it all set up but for some reason I cannot get it to play in surround sound. I can only get two channels (the center, front right and the subwoofer) to play. I have it hooked up via coax audio port, whats the deal? Why is it not playing in 5.1 like its intended to play in?

  1. You should have settings to change the playback mode ie.. Dolby pro logic, pro logic 2 and probably some pioneer settings like extended stereo, action, drama etc etc etc. there is a setting for this somewhere look on your remote. Also some sources like a CD or your tv even some dvds play in stereo default but you should still have a setting for the receiver to create the other 4 channels.

  2. hi i had this when i first bought my system.

check the movie settings. you can sometimes chose what format sound you have.

check the remote/menu options they often have sound options to switch between.

  3. the source your listing to must be broadcast in surround sound. for ex the news will only be 2 ch
