Question:

Trying to start horse showing?

I've been riding 6 years at my current barn, and I've been interested in going into an actual show for a while. I don't own my own horse, I ride schoolies at my barn, I dont lease. I ride flatwork decently and jumping beginer-ish. How do i start getting into the shows? Where do I start? Who should I ask?

  1. I don't know where you live, but I work with kids all the time.  Here in Tennessee we have local shows in just about every county.  These smaller shows are great.  I always take more horses than I need for others to ride.  If you could find some small shows to get to just ask around.  I'm sure there is someone willing to let you ride there horse.

  2. Really this is a question for your trainer,

Since you train at a barn ask the other riders and trainer if you are ready to do so ,,

How can I tell by talking to you!

Do you know your leads !

do you know how to post ,correctly ?

and the rules that go along w/showing !!if so go ,,

    Good Luck

  3. You should ask your trainer about going to a little local schooling show. its a low stress environment and can be very fun.

If you're not confident with jumping then i dont recommend that you show in jumping classes.

It would be a more positive experience if you showed walk-trot or a few under saddle and equitation classes that would involve canter.

Your trainer might lend you one of  her school horses to show for a day for a small fee. But its up to your trainer.
