Trying to think of a film, adapted from a book, possibly similar to Shooter?

This is going to be really vague - sorry!

Just watching the film 'Shooter' and it's bringing to mind a film I saw the other year and I really wish I could remember what it was. I think I also read the book (I have a bad memory).

I'm fairly sure there was either a sniper in it, or similar. (ex-military??)

The part I recall best included the guy setting up traps in the wilderness type area that he knew well (america/canada I think) whilst people were trying to get him.

Possibly was a set-up/frame situation?

Probably no-one will have a clue from that - but if you can think of anything at all possible please answer!!!
