Trying to watch movies on my laptop and want to hook up to my TV so I can watch it on TV instead of Laptop?

I have told to use a S video wire which I did and hooked up both S videos to my laptop and TV but when I started changing videos it would not work; does anyone have any good ideas on how to get this to work; i am trying to watch movies that i watch on my laptop and watch it on my larger TV and help would be appreciated

  1. you also need to go into device manager, monitor/display, and turn the port on.
