Trying to wire a new central heating thermostat and i have 2 lives? please help?

  1. your old wire should be a 22-4 conductor meanin it has 4 wires that carry energy you may have a red/ white(maybe yellow/)/ blakc(maybe brown)/ and green. on the back of the new thermostat there will be letters above 4 terminal poasts, one for each wire . there may be a wire already factory installed between two of the poasts, this is where the red goes. neber the mind red= power / white= communicator /  white = communicator green=ground


  2. what do you mean by "2 lives", you should have a feed and a switch wire......(maybe a neutral depending on your stat.) the feed will be permanently live and the switch wire will become live when the stat calls for heat.
