  1. i would say if your short try out for the setter spot because most setters are short... so just work on that spot and you should be good

  2. Coaches don't care about height. As a freshmen I was 5'4 which is not that tall either. If you know how to pass well you're good. And since you're 5'0 - 5'1 I think you should be a setter or libero, unless you can jump really high. And increasing your vertical takes a lot of hard work

To prepare for try outs, be ready to run a mile. Or at least at my school and the schools around my area test you on your mile. However, you should have endurance anyways. And like I said before, learn how to pass and learning how to set can be useful. If you find yourself to be a pretty good setter, you should stick with it because rarely will you find good setters on jv teams

Also, learning how to overhand would increase your chance. Not many jv players know how to overhand

During try outs... when the coach call you over NEVER WALK! jog over. When they give you advice listen and try to apply. Don't talk back. Have potential. And make new friends!!! lol

  3. they dont only want tall players. I believe you should practice on your bump passes.I believe you might be a d.s. (a Defensive specialist) or a setter. So work on those because your not that tall.Your probably not gonna be a spiker.

Reallly Really practice on your bump passes and setting to get a good balance and control of the ball.

  4. I can't really say what the coaches will be looking for cause i don't know them. However, I can say that as a coach, I look for players that work hard and call the ball first and talent second. I don't only pick the tall players, I pick the players that want to be there. Some coaches are fixated on things like height and talent and both are useless without a willingness to work hard. Obviously you're ability will come into play so get out to as many camps this summer as you possibly can. You can't control what the coaches will do. You can only try your best. Make sure you always move your feet and call the ball. As far as jumping higher, go talk to a trainer they're best equipped to answer that properly.

    Good Luck!

  5. okay first of all NOOOO way they are not only looking for tall players...everyone thinks that volleyball is for extremely huge tall people but the truth is, to play volleyball you need to be fast, athletic, and mobile.....i am also 5'0 and am currently a LIBERO  (D.S / backrow player) . I love my position because only smart athletic SMALL people can play it...another good position for a short person is the setter although they sometimes have to block, they dont hit. I made the JV team as a freshman this year and...when trying out for the JV volleyball team, coaches will be looking for............

    hustle

    good attitude

    working well with others

    athletic people

    skill level

    potential

    all around players

    ability to play multiple positions

    expirance

***hope i helped and good luck!!!
