I am trying out for the 8th grade basketball (girls) team and I am pretty short (5'5") but I play really good defense. Is there any way to improve my left and right layups?

Please, any advice?

Only 12 will be picked out of about 30

  1. PRACTICE! nothing can subsitute practice, just practice your layups every day, and work on post moves even if you aren't a post player cause you will become more consistent

  2. Mikans are definitely your best bet. Start out at the right elbow of the key and dribble with your right hand toward the basket and shoot a right handed lay-up, then grab the rebound and dribble with your right hand out to the left elbow of the key, turn and dribble with your left hand towards the basket and shoot a left handed lay-up and repeat. Time yourself for one minute and try to increase the amount of lay-ups you make every time. Set a goal for yourself, for example, say you have to make 15 lay-ups in one minute and you only make 12 then that's one suicide for every lay-up you missed to get to 15 so that would be three suicides or something. Hope this helps.

  3. DO THE GEORGE MIKEN DRILL!

  4. that other person needs a life.

step with ur right for left and left 4 lay up. try toget a good jump and lay up the ball to the back court cuz its easier.try to have a good stretch cuz it makes a difference. practice with each hand 1 hr each a day and by try outs u should be better. since ur 5'5 its a possibilty ull play the 1 or 2. also try having that "touch" when u jump shoot.
