Tryshia Centeno pockets Women’s 200yard IM gold: Day two – NJCAA, Florida
Tryshia Centeno of Indian River State College pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200yard Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association in Fort Pierce, Florida at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex on Thursday, March
8.
The 19-year-old Centeno stayed significantly ahead of her rivals from the start of the race. With her extraordinary efforts, she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 01.20 seconds. Her effort was 3.17
seconds under the record of 2 minutes and 04.37 seconds, made by Centeno in March 2011.
The gold medallist remained in a lead of almost three seconds over her closest competitor, Anna Macht of Darton College, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.64 seconds.
The second position holder of the discipline was chased by Centeno’s Solyvette Lizardi, who was almost two seconds away from Macht and ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 06.35 seconds.
In the meantime, Edwin Angjeli of Indian River State dominated the final of Men’s 200yard IM. The 19-year-old Angjeli stayed almost two strokes ahead of his strongest challenger and snared gold medal of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 50.06 seconds.
His effort remained nearly three seconds away from the record of 1 minute and 47.68 seconds, made by Marcin Malinski during 1998.
Angjeli was chased by his team-member, Jared Pike, who remained 1.37 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 51.43 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the event was secured by Goran Koprivnjak of ICCC, who was 3.56 seconds behind and emerged on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 54.99 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena applauded for marvellous efforts of all participants in the 200yard discipline while the winners received their accolades after the session. In addition, the championship will end of March 10 after the conclusion of all planned events.
