Yani Tseng determined to win her third straight title at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship
The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship is going to be staged from June 29 to July 1, at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, with the current world number one Yani Tseng looking to win her third straight victory
of the tournament.
The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship is likely to turn into a nerve-racking battle, as most of the contenders confirmed for the event are also eyeing the second major tournament of the current season, the US
Women’s Open.
Analysts said the importance of Arkansas Championship has increased mainly because of the looming major event set to be staged form July 5-8, at Kohler.
Tseng, who is seeking to set foot on the course with a new vigour, will have to face a tough field at Rogers. The top-ranked prodigy did not play the last event, Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, which
helped other players improve their rankings.
Although the Taiwanese star’s top position is still intact, a number of players have emerged as a growing threat, with an aim of snatching the number one spot.
Analysts said that Tseng has so far been pretty complacent, as she has held her top position for several weeks. However, they pointed out that American Stacy Lewis can pose a serious challenge to the young
star.
Lewis has gradually consolidated her position in the world rankings lately, as she is currently standing at the second. With good skills and unique stature, the American prodigy has struck fear into her rivals.
A factor that has put Tseng in the limelight is that she is the defending champion of the title. Moreover, she also won the 2010 edition of the event, making it hard for her rivals to do their best.
Quite apparently, Tseng’s biggest adversary will be Stacy Lewis. Lewis is making a name for herself in tournaments and is performing well. According to sources, the American golfer is helping the University
of Arkansas women’s golf programme by giving $100,000.
Lewis played amateur golf at the University of Arkansas, and is very proud of her association with it.
“Isay it all the time. I would not be where I am if I had gone to any other university, and I honestly feel that way,” she said.
