Tseng on song at Women's British Open
Taiwan's Yani Tseng has forged a formidable clubhouse lead at the second round of the Ricoh Women's British Open, coming home four-under-par today for a total of eight-under-par - some four strokes ahead of her nearest competitors.
Tseng started the day tied for the lead with Australia's Katherine Hull at Royal Birkdale, after both players had eagled the 18th yesterday to move a stroke ahead of their immediate rivals. And the 21-year-old, already a two-time major winner, barely put a foot wrong today, a bogey on the 3rd her solitary error.
With five birdies, three of them coming over the space of four holes on the back nine, Tseng already looks like she has a third major victory in her crosshairs. Her three most immediate challengers, Amy Yang, Christie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome trail by four shots, though Kerr impressed on coming home five-under-par 67 today, having shot six birdies and a bogey.
Lincicome and Yang were each one-under today, Lincicome having shot two bogeys and a double on the 12th before finishing strongly with three birdies, two on the final four - and an eagle on the 17th. Yang's round was less of a rollercoaster ride, the Korean carding one bogey and a couple of birdies.
Suzann Pettersen was in fifth place on three-under along with Sun Young Yoo and France's Anne Lise-Caudal, though the Frenchwoman is yet to begin her second round. Yesterday's joint leader Hull had a disappointing second round, two-over today after three bogeys and a birdie saw her position on the leaderboard fall to eighth, two-under for the tournament.
