Tshepang Mohale celebrates South Africa light heavyweight title victory behind the bars – Boxing news
The 31-year-old, South African Light Heavyweight professional boxer Tshepang Mohale was caught by the police at the time when he was celebrating his victory over his compatriot, Johnny Muller on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng,
South Africa.
The time was 2:11 when the referee, Wally Snowball stepped into the ring to halt the fight. Mohale sent Muller to the canvas for a couple of times in round three. Mohale won the 3rd round knockout and the South African Light Heavyweight title
in the process.
At the time when Mohale was celebrating his win over Muller, police entered the venue and started investigations. He was held responsible for the possession of a stolen cellular phone. He was stepping down with his title from the ring when police chased
him to take the action against him.
Mohale purchased a BlackBerry mobile just a few days ago from a shop near his house.
His manager, Peter Smith, spoke on behalf of his fighter when police took the charge against him that Mohale bought the stolen phone from a shop in central Johannesburg, where he is currently living.
The news spread like a wildfire to the public. Berman spoke to the press and said, “This is so unexpected and to happen just after he had won the most important bout of his career is equally disappointing.”
The champion spent the night behind the bars when he should have been around his fans.
Mohale was released from Douglasdale police station on Sunday morning after he was bailed out. He was asked to appear in front of Magistrate at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
It was really a shocking news for the champion, but he was positive that he will be able to prove his innocence to get rid of that situation. He would definitely try to settle the case down before going against his next opposition.
